The BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management is a nationally recognised qualification designed for emerging and experienced leaders who manage people, performance, and operational outcomes. This programme strengthens practical leadership capability, communication skills, and the confidence needed to lead teams effectively in dynamic workplace environments.

 

Delivered by the Australian Leadership Skills Centre (RTO 32156), this qualification supports professionals across government, corporate, and community sectors who want to enhance their leadership impact and progress their career.

Leadership and management skills are essential in every industry. This broad‑ranging and practical qualification equips learners with the skills needed to lead and manage in diverse work environments — large or small, government or business. Key areas of focus include leadership, communication, business planning, teamwork, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, providing a strong foundation for effective and confident leadership.

​​Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes within broad parameters.

Participants will benefit from a holistic and comprehensive learning programme, designed to impart practical skills and knowledge.  Training and assessment is practical, realistic and relevant, and directly applicable to any workplace and industry.  Sessions are supported by learning materials, readings and intensive coaching and mentoring by facilitators, as well as online, email and phone support.

Units of Competence

The course covers twelve (12) units of competence, six (6) core units and six (6) elective units.  Units are drawn from the following:

Programme Overview

Title: BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management

Duration: 1-3 years (part-time) 

Description: A guided programme of learning to suit both aspiring and established leaders and managers.

Accreditation: Level 5 on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Who should attend?

This qualification is ideal for professionals who:

  • Lead or supervise teams

  • Manage day‑to‑day operations or business functions

  • Support workplace performance and continuous improvement

  • Provide coaching, guidance, or mentoring to others

  • Wish to step into more senior leadership role

Common roles include Team Leader, Supervisor, Coordinator, Operations Officer, or emerging Manager.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for studying this qualification, but candidates should have the literacy and numeracy skills required to study at a diploma level. In order to successfully complete the qualification we recommend that candidates should either:

  • hold a Certificate IV or Certificate III

OR

  • have relevant vocational practice, without formal qualifications

OR

  • have other educational qualifications and some vocational experience.
